Family Caregivers Month
-November is National Family Caregivers Month-
RN Cancer Guides Solutions recognizes National Family Caregivers Month as a time to honor the compassion and dedication of family members and friends caring for loved ones battling cancer.
The Caregiver Action Network promotes this annual observance each November to raise awareness of family caregiver issues across America.
Caregiveraction.org offers a broad range of support and information for caregivers. The website references a 2009 statistic from the National Alliance for Caregiving in collaboration with AARP, which states: “More than 65 million people, 29% of the U.S. population, provide care for a chronically ill, disabled, or aged family member or friend during any given year and spend an average of 20 hours per week providing care for their loved one.”
The team at RN Cancer Guides understands that caregivers devote a great deal of time and energy supporting their loved ones during a cancer diagnosis. Caregivers may help with everything from meal preparations, to transportation for medical appointments, to household management, to healthcare decisions. With these extensive responsibilities in mind, RN Cancer Guides Solutions provides services specifically for caregivers, in addition to customized solutions for patients, providers, and employers.
“Our specialized approach includes individualized programs with 24/7 support to help caregivers ensure the best possible care for loved ones with cancer,” said Susan Scherer, Founder and CEO of RN Cancer Guides Solutions.
Scherer leads the national team of Oncology Certified Nurses (OCN) working to enhance healthcare services for patients, while simultaneously improving the caregiver experience through face-to-face interactions, navigation, and support. Earlier this year, Scherer helped write a new law passed by Florida legislators to allow patients to bring persons of their choosing, including caregivers, to medical appointments at a healthcare facility or provider’s office. A summary of The Rights and Responsibilities of Patients Bill (CS/HB 1253), signed by Gov. Scott in June 2017, is available at Florida Senate’s website.
